Andy attended the University of Minnesota where he was a member of the debate team, studied the Hebrew language and graduated with a degree in Speech and Communication.

Andy attended Hamline Law School in St. Paul where he was a member of the moot court team and a legal research and writing teaching assistant.  He received the top grade in his class in both criminal law and for closing arguments in trial advocacy.  He graduated in 2010 with honors, having made the Dean’s honor roll in each semester.

As a university student, Andy was assistant property manager for Prospect Park Properties and worked with tenants, city officials, zoning boards, local landlords, and neighborhood committees.

Between university and law school, Andy spent four years as a loan officer working with homeowners, investors, real estate companies, title companies, insurance companies and bank underwriters.   He helped people get financing for the purchase of real estate.

During law school Andy worked for the Minnesota State Public Defender’s Office and for a private criminal defense lawyer.   Andy also did legal research and writing on a contract basis for various law firms in the Twin Cities.

After law school Andy chose to settle in International Falls to begin his legal career.  He worked as law clerk for Judge Charles H. LeDuc and experienced everything that happened in the courtroom.  Andy assisted the Judge in determining the strength of legal arguments and the credibility of evidence.  Andy regularly observed Drug Court, and he was secretary and treasurer of the Koochiching County Law Library Committee and the Koochiching County Children’s Justice Initiative.

After working two years with the Court, Andy joined Steven A. Nelson & Associates, Attorneys at Law in April of 2013.  Andy’s education and experience allows him to handle the broad range of legal issues that present themselves to the typical Northern Minnesota lawyer.

Community Involvement:

Since moving to International Falls, Andy has been a youth coach with the Evangelical Covenant Church Youth Group.  He began working with 7th grade guys and continues to work weekly with this group.  Andy has taken these and other teens on hunting, fishing, camping and canoe trips and has held a weekly study group for them at his home.  Andy’s goal is to demonstrate integrity and commitment to these young men so that they will choose to live Godly lives and come to know Jesus Christ as Lord.

In the summer of 2012 Andy met Lindsi, a native of Long Prairie, MN, who was working as a career counselor at Idaho State University.  Lindsi visited International Falls on a beautiful weekend in late September of 2012 and after a boat ride to Kettle Falls, was in love with the area.  Andy and Lindsi got married at her parents’ farm on June 1, 2013.  They live on Riverview Boulevard in International Falls.
